The image shows a detailed close-up of tree bark and branches. The foreground is dominated by the textured, multi-hued surface of a tree trunk, with various shades of brown, gray, and beige. In the background, more branches and the suggestion of a sky or open space are visible. The location appears to be an outdoor natural setting.
This is an oil painting on canvas of a specific tree found on a hike through Point Reyes National Seashore in Marin County, California in 2014. It was originally painted for a show called, "Celebrating Western Wilderness" at the Vallejo Naval and Historical Museum as part of the first annual "Visions of the Wild" Festival put on by the U.S. Forest Service in 2014. This first edition of the festival was entitled "Wilderness 50", celebrating the 50th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Wilderness Act, the first law to designate and preserve areas in the country as "wilderness" in order to protect them from any kind of development.
