It's All About the Dog
In this image, I crafted a lively scene featuring a gathering in a green outdoor space. The focus is on a woman in the foreground wearing a striped shirt and seated comfortably. Her relaxed posture suggests a moment of enjoyment, possibly in conversation or simply enjoying the day.
A golden retriever on a leash stands behind her, happily engaged with its surroundings, which adds warmth and a sense of companionship to the scene. The dog’s playful demeanor contrasts with the more relaxed human figures.
In the background, a woman can be seen, holding a red cup and her cell phone, while the dog's owner stands nearby. This collective of individuals creates an atmosphere of social interaction and community, indicative of casual gatherings like picnics or barbecues.
The interplay of colors, from the vibrant green of the grass to the soft hues of the clothing, evokes a warm, inviting atmosphere that captures the essence of a pleasant day spent with friends and family. The positioning of the figures also suggests inclusivity, with everyone appearing engaged in their respective activities yet connected through the shared environment.
Overall, the image invites viewers to reflect on themes of companionship, leisure, and the simplicity of enjoying moments together amidst nature.
This is a detail of a scene of spectators watching a 4th of July parade in my wife's home town as we rode on a float for her high school reunion. After spending some years documenting my experience of my inner child I began to look outward for scenes of children and families in the societal world that resonated with me. Witnessing this parade provided me some compelling scenes of children and their families and in this case just interesting people and their dogs in this new context. I feel that pets sometimes are expressions of the inner child or a least a mirror of the innocence and vitality of the inner child energy in me the observer. This painting along with the others in this category are celebrations of that energy in all of us.
